Project Case Studies

The MOL Group is working on "complete digitalization" and "optimization of operations and organizations" as driving forces for transforming its business portfolio, toward the achievement of its group management plan "MITSUI OCEAN 2035". As part of this plan, SIGMAXYZ supported a project by MOL Information Systems, Ltd. to standardize the accounting operations and systems of the MOL Group's FOC ship companies. 

In this project, we supported the implementation of the SaaS-based ERP system "SAP S/4HANA® Cloud Public Edition" to about 250 MOL Group's FOC ship companies. Targeting the accounting operations area, we took a thorough "Fit to Standard" approach, aligning operations to the standard ERP functions, standardizing without add-ons and completing the introduction in just seven months and at the planned cost. 

In terms of standardization, our consultants with extensive experience in this field utilized their knowledge of SAP Activate Methodology and shipping company operations, promoting understanding of standard processes through workshops where participants had hands-on experience with actual equipment, and contributing to change management in the workplace. In addition, we addressed additional requirements that are not compatible with the ERP system by developing interfaces with external systems, achieving the "Clean Core principle" without unnecessary customization. We also contributed to building a system environment that maximizes the benefits of using SaaS, such as automatic upgrades to the latest functions on the SaaS side and reduced operation and maintenance costs. 

This project was also highly praised by SAP Japan, which provides "SAP S/4HANA® Cloud Public Edition," and won the "Project of the Year (Grand Prize)" at the annual award, "SAP AWARD OF EXCELLENCE 2025" hosted by SAP Japan. Going forward, we will continue to promote the introduction of SAP S/4HANAⓇ Cloud Public Edition as a foundation for accelerating value creation for Japanese companies.
